Tommy Brandenburg led Washington to a 6-3 win over Valparaiso on April 2, striking out a career-high 11 batters and allowing just three hits and one run over six innings. The victory brings Washington’s season record to 14-15.

The game was significant for Brandenburg, who more than doubled his previous strikeout record of five. Jackson Hotchkiss contributed offensively by going two-for-four at the plate and hitting his ninth home run of the season in the third inning. Hotchkiss has now averaged one home run every two games with nine homers in 18 starts.

Hotchkiss also led the team in runs scored, hits, and runs batted in during the game. Daniel Porras added two hits, a run, and an RBI. In relief pitching, Jack Wade threw one and two-thirds innings without allowing a hit while recording four strikeouts despite issuing four walks. Jaxson Gore finished the eighth inning before Bryce Johnson closed out the ninth, giving up one hit and one run but securing the win.

Overall, Husky pitchers struck out a season-high total of 17 batters during Thursday night’s contest. Since March 1, Washington has won five of its last six games and holds a record of 13-6 over that span.

The Huskies will continue their series against Valparaiso on Friday night at Husky Ballpark with first pitch scheduled for 7 p.m.
