The Washington Huskies men’s baseball team defeated Pepperdine 11-2 on Mar. 24, closing their road trip with a decisive win.
The victory brings the Huskies’ season record to 10-14. The team was led by starting pitcher Tommy Brandenburg, who threw five scoreless innings, allowing five hits and striking out five batters while issuing one walk.
Jackson Hotchkiss continued his strong performance at the plate, hitting his third home run in two games and bringing his season total to seven—a new career high. Hotchkiss also leads the team in several offensive categories including batting average (.449), slugging percentage (1.000), on-base percentage (.491), doubles (6), home runs (7), and total bases (49). He has reached base safely in twelve consecutive games.
Five Huskies recorded multi-hit games during the contest: Colton Bower had three hits, while Sam DeCarlo, Blake Wilson, and Ty Cowan each contributed two hits. The team tallied five extra-base hits overall, with Bower, Wilson, and Cowan each adding a double.
Relief pitchers Bryce Johnson and Peysen Sweeney finished out the game for Washington. Johnson pitched innings six through eight, allowing three hits and two runs with two walks and a strikeout. Sweeney closed the game by pitching a scoreless ninth inning.
Looking ahead, Washington will return home to face Northwestern in a three-game series at Husky Ballpark beginning Friday evening at 7 p.m.
