The No. 20 Washington Huskies softball team lost a close conference game to Oregon, 5-4, on April 18 at Jane Sanders Stadium. The defeat marks the Huskies’ second consecutive loss in Big Ten play.

This matchup is important as both teams are competing for position within the conference standings. The Huskies now hold a record of 34-11 overall and 15-2 in the Big Ten.

Jadyn Glab led Washington with three hits in four at-bats, including her ninth home run of the season. Kaycie Burdick started the game with a leadoff home run, her second career homer. Alexis DeBoer added another solo shot, her sixteenth of the year, tying the score at 3-3 during the third inning.

Oregon responded with two home runs in the bottom of the third and another key homer in the fifth inning that gave them a two-run lead. Jade Bubke helped narrow Washington’s deficit with an RBI double—her second hit of the day—in the sixth inning after Gabi Toney pinch-hit for Sophi Mazzola.

In their final chance during the seventh inning, Glab singled and was replaced by pinch runner Jing Gardner. Ava Carroll followed with a single as well, but Gardner was called out attempting to advance to third base for what became Washington’s last out.

Washington will face Oregon again on Sunday, April 19 at Jane Sanders Stadium for their series finale. The game will be broadcast on Big Ten Network.
