The Washington Huskies baseball team split a doubleheader against Minnesota on Apr. 10, winning the first game 11-7 and dropping the second 12-6. The results set up a deciding rubber match between the teams scheduled for Saturday afternoon.
The series holds significance as Washington looks to improve its standing in Big Ten play, now holding a record of 15-19 overall and an even 7-7 in conference games.
In the opening game, Washington’s offense was led by Jackson Hotchkiss, who hit two home runs and drove in five runs. Hotchkiss started the scoring with a leadoff homer and finished with three hits and two walks. The Huskies scored five runs in the fourth inning and three more in the fifth to secure their lead. Sam DeCarlo added his fourth home run of the season during this stretch, while Colton Bower contributed his ninth homer of the year.
Noah Kenney pitched six innings for his fourth win of the season, allowing four runs on three hits while striking out five batters. Carson Boesel provided relief before Tommy Brandenburg recorded the final out to earn his third save of the year.
In game two, Bower hit another home run—his tenth this season—while Blake Wilson went three-for-four at bat with a double and stolen base. Five different Huskies players collected RBIs during this contest: Bower, Braeden Terry, Alex Pearson, Landon Young, and Ty Cowan. Liam Lierman started on the mound for Washington before turning it over to Jaxson Gore; Bryce Johnson, Jack Wade, and Tyler Walker also pitched in relief.
The teams will conclude their series with a rubber match scheduled for Saturday at 1 p.m.
