Freshman pitcher Kaia Galaviz was named West Coast Conference (WCC) Pitcher of the Week on Apr. 13, following her standout performances for Seattle University softball against Saint Mary’s. The honor marks the first time a Seattle Redhawks player has received this recognition from the WCC.

Galaviz’s achievement highlights her impact as a freshman and underscores the significance of strong pitching in conference play. Her efforts contributed to a key win over the conference-leading Gaels and helped move Seattle University into third place in the standings.

During the series, Galaviz appeared twice in relief and as a starter. She pitched two scoreless innings on Saturday, striking out three batters without allowing any hits or walks. In Sunday’s game, she started and threw her second complete game of the season, facing 23 batters over six innings while striking out three and giving up only two hits with three walks. This victory marked her sixth win of the year, tying her for most wins among Redhawks pitchers.

Across both appearances against Saint Mary’s, Galaviz did not allow any runs or extra base hits and limited opponents to a .080 batting average with a .00 earned run average (ERA). The run rule shutout was just Seattle’s second shutout this season and their first since defeating BYU earlier in February.

This is also notable as it is only the third time this season that a Redhawk has earned a weekly award from the WCC; previously, Taylor Fitch and Avari Morris were recognized as players of the week. Galaviz is also distinguished as being the first pitcher to earn such an award since last season when Seattle University competed in its final year in another conference.

Looking ahead, Galaviz and her teammates will return to Logan Field for an upcoming three-game series against LMU.
