Lazaro Montes, the fourth-ranked prospect for Seattle, hit three home runs and drove in a career-high eight runs to help Double-A Arkansas defeat Wichita 16-6 on May 2 at Equity Bank Park.
Montes reached base four times during the game. His recent performance marks a turnaround after he had only one home run in his first 80 plate appearances this season. Last year, Montes finished tied for third in Minor League Baseball with 32 home runs.
The improvement began when Arkansas arrived in Wichita. Before Saturday’s game, Montes had already hit two homers during the series against the Wind Surge. In Saturday’s contest, he started with a three-run homer over the right-field fence in the fourth inning. He followed that with another three-run homer to right field in the fifth inning, matching his previous high of six RBIs set last August for Arkansas.
Montes added a two-run homer to right field during his final at-bat of the game, marking his first career three-homer game as a professional player. Multihomer games are familiar territory for him; since early 2024, he has hit multiple homers in one game eleven times and has left the yard 59 times over that span.
Earlier this week, Montes was batting .212 with one homer and seven RBIs. After collecting five homers and eleven RBIs across four games since Tuesday morning, he raised his OPS from .686 to .900—close to his career mark of .910.
Only Dodgers prospect Ryan Ward (75) and Yankees prospect Spencer Jones (60) have more home runs than Montes’ total since early 2024.
