The Seattle Mariners placed outfielder Victor Robles on the 10-day injured list with a right pectoral strain, retroactive to Tuesday, and selected infielder/outfielder Connor Joe from Triple-A Tacoma, according to an April 8 announcement. The team also transferred right-hander Carlos Vargas from the 15-day to the 60-day injured list due to a right lat strain.

This roster move is significant for the Mariners as they adjust their lineup early in the season. Injuries have impacted both Robles and Vargas, requiring changes that could affect team performance in upcoming games.

Connor Joe, age 33, has been playing for Triple-A Tacoma this season where he is batting .235 with four doubles, one home run, four RBIs and three walks over nine games. He has played first base as well as left and right field for Tacoma. During Spring Training with Seattle this year, Joe recorded a .340 batting average with an on-base percentage of .411 and a slugging percentage of .560 over 50 at-bats.

“He’ll bring leadership to the clubhouse,” Mariners manager Dan Wilson said about Joe. “[He’s] been around the game awhile here and is more of a veteran-type player, and put up really good numbers in Spring Training in terms of just his approach, his consistency.” Last season Joe appeared with both Cincinnati Reds and San Diego Padres.

Robles was batting .231 in five games before his injury. Since joining Seattle in 2024 he has succeeded on 37 out of 40 stolen base attempts but missed much of last season after dislocating his shoulder during a catch attempt at San Francisco. Wilson said Robles was hurt throwing during outfield drills prior to Tuesday’s loss against Texas.

Carlos Vargas made 70 appearances for Seattle last year after being acquired from Arizona along with catcher Seby Zavala.
