Seattle Mariners pitching prospect Kade Anderson delivered a standout performance on April 11, striking out 11 batters over five hitless innings for Double-A Arkansas in a game against Wichita at Dickey-Stephens Park. Anderson, who was selected third overall in the 2025 Draft out of Louisiana State University, earned the win as Arkansas secured a 5-0 victory.
Anderson’s performance is notable for its rarity. In the Minor Leagues during the previous year, only seven outings featured at least five hitless and scoreless innings with 11 or more strikeouts. This marks Anderson’s second professional start and makes him the first pitcher to achieve this feat in the current season.
The left-handed pitcher utilized his four-pitch mix effectively throughout the game, recording strikeouts on each type: five with his fastball, three with his curveball, two with his changeup, and one with his slider. He issued just two walks and did not allow either runner to advance past first base. Over his outing, he achieved a career-best total of 14 swings-and-misses and maintained strong control by throwing nearly 69 percent strikes.
In his debut earlier this month on April 3, Anderson struck out six across five scoreless innings while allowing five hits and one walk. His early results have led to an impressive strikeout-to-walk rate of about forty percent over nine professional innings pitched—a figure that surpasses any qualified Major League starter since Corbin Burnes in 2021.
Although Seattle currently has one of Major League Baseball’s deepest starting rotations and ranks third overall in team earned run average (2.86), observers note that few left-handed pitchers have advanced through their system like Anderson recently. His rapid progress could soon lead to consideration for promotion.
