The Seattle Mariners are ranked fifth in the latest Major League Baseball Power Rankings, according to an April 5 report. The rankings, compiled by MLB.com contributors and written by Brent Maguire, reflect team performances more than a week into the regular season.

These early-season rankings provide insight into how teams have started their campaigns and highlight both strengths and areas of concern. The Mariners’ pitching staff has been particularly strong so far, while their offense has yet to fully find its rhythm. “Seattle’s bats haven’t gotten going, but it’s been a different story for M’s pitchers, who have dominated in the early weeks. When both sides of the ball are rolling for Seattle, the Mariners could be a force,” Maguire wrote.

The Dodgers remain at number one after winning consecutive World Series titles and starting hot despite some underperforming hitters. The Yankees climbed to second place with dominant pitching that allowed only eight runs over their first seven games—a mark tied with historic teams like the 2002 Giants and 1993 Braves.

Other notable moves include the Brewers jumping from eleventh to third thanks to a strong start on both offense and defense. The Braves overcame preseason setbacks—including injuries and suspensions—to secure fourth place in these rankings.

Further down the list, teams like the Blue Jays have faced challenges due to injuries among key players but still show potential depth. Meanwhile, clubs such as the Astros demonstrated resilience amid doubts about maintaining past success.

As more games are played throughout April, observers will watch closely to see if current trends continue or if new contenders emerge in future editions of these rankings.
