Seattle University announced on Apr. 22 that women’s tennis players Lola Tavcar and Daria Nazarenko have been selected for the West Coast Conference (WCC) Women’s Tennis All-Academic team. The honor comes during Seattle University’s first year back in the conference. Natalia Michta and Larissa Teramura were also recognized as honorable mentions.

The recognition highlights academic achievement among student athletes in addition to their performance on the court. To qualify, athletes must have at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average, be at least a sophomore with one year of residence at their institution, and participate in at least half of their team’s contests.

Nazarenko is a junior from Omsk, Russia majoring in psychology who was previously named an Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Scholar Athlete last year. Tavcar is a senior from Vienna, Austria majoring in political science; she was also an ITA All-Scholar Athlete last year and made the College Sports Communicators All-District team as a sophomore.

Larissa Teramura, a senior from Kailua, Hawai’i majoring in mechanical engineering, received honorable mention after earning Big West All-Academic honors and being recognized as a UC Irvine Scholar Athlete during her time at UC Irvine. She was also named an ITA All-Scholar Athlete last year while at Seattle University. Natalia Michta, a senior from Krakow, Poland majoring in psychology, was likewise named an ITA All-Scholar athlete as a junior.

The announcement underscores Seattle University’s commitment to both athletic competition and academic excellence within its women’s tennis program.
