Midfielder Nikola Petković has undergone successful right knee ACL reconstruction surgery, Seattle Sounders FC announced on April 11. The procedure was performed by Dr. David Belfie at Providence Swedish in Seattle on Thursday, April 9. Following the operation, Petković has been placed on the Season-Ending Injury List and will not play for the rest of the 2026 season.
This development is significant for both Petković and Sounders FC as it affects team depth during a critical period of competition. The midfielder had joined Sounders FC on loan from Charlotte FC ahead of the current campaign and appeared in six matches across all competitions before his injury.
Petković, who is 23 years old, previously made 24 appearances in all competitions for Charlotte FC between 2024 and 2025 before joining Seattle this year.
The announcement comes after Sounders FC lost 2-0 to Tigres UANL in the first leg of the Concacaf Champions Cup Quarterfinals at Estadio Universitario. This match concluded an eight-game stretch away from Lumen Field where Seattle posted a record of five wins, two draws, and one loss across all competitions. The return leg is scheduled for Wednesday, April 15 at Lumen Field’s Emerald Queen Casino Pitch.
Sounders FC stated that “Sounders FC midfielder Nikola Petković has been placed on the Season-Ending Injury List on April 10, 2026.” The club will now look to adjust its lineup as it continues its run in domestic and international tournaments.
