Noah Kenney led the Washington Huskies to a 6-0 victory over Valparaiso on Apr. 4, striking out a career-high 14 batters and continuing a strong run for the team’s pitching staff.
The result improves the Huskies’ season record to an even 15-15. The team has now won four consecutive games and six of their last seven contests.
Kenney delivered seven innings of shutout baseball, allowing just four hits and two walks while never facing more than four batters in any inning. His performance set the tone for Washington’s pitching dominance in the series.
Offensively, DeCarlo drove in the first run with an RBI single in the opening inning and finished as the game’s only player with two hits, also scoring once. Ethan Swidler added another RBI in the second inning, Cowan contributed one in the fifth, and Hotchkiss capped off scoring with an RBI in the eighth.
Reliever Gunnar Nichols closed out the final two innings without allowing a hit or walk and recorded three strikeouts. Over two games against Valparaiso, Washington pitchers have combined for 34 strikeouts.
The Huskies have outscored their opponents by a margin of 37-7 during their current four-game winning streak. The team will aim to complete a sweep against Valparaiso tomorrow at Husky Ballpark, with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
