The No. 20 Washington Huskies softball team lost its first conference game of the season to No. 18 Oregon, falling 8-4 on April 17 in the opening game of their series at Jane Sanders Stadium.

This matchup was significant as it marked Washington’s first loss in Big Ten play this year, bringing their record to 34-10 overall and 15-1 in conference games. The result impacts both teams’ standings as they continue through the remainder of the season.

Oregon started strong with a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning and added another run with an RBI single in the third. Washington responded when Giselle Alvarez hit a solo home run in the sixth inning, followed by Acevedo tying the score at three with a two-RBI double. However, Oregon regained control by loading the bases and walking in a run to make it 4-3 before hitting a grand slam that extended their lead to 8-3 by scoring five runs total in that inning.

Washington attempted a comeback when Alexis DeBoer doubled to bring home another run in the seventh, but it was not enough as Oregon secured victory for game one of this rivalry series.

Game two is scheduled for Saturday, April 18 at Jane Sanders Stadium and will be streamed on Big Ten Plus. Fans can follow updates through official social media channels or by downloading relevant apps for news and highlights.
