U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who represents Washington’s 7th district in Congress, addressed the killing of journalist and activist Awdah Hathaleen in a series of social media posts on July 29, 2025.

In her first post, Jayapal stated, “Awdah Hathaleen was a journalist and activist working toward justice. His killing is a tragedy.

I was proud to show No Other Land in the Capitol—to bring its message from the West Bank to lawmakers. My heart goes out to his family and those mourning.

She reiterated this message moments later, posting: “Awdah Hathaleen was a journalist and activist working toward justice. His killing is a tragedy.

Later that day, Jayapal posted another message unrelated to the earlier subject: “Tax the rich. https://t.co/j3vIGcwEzI” (July 29, 2025).

Pramila Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th district in Congress since 2017 after serving in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. She succeeded Jim McDermott as U.S. Representative for the district. Born in Chennai in 1965, Jayapal resides in Seattle and holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
