U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who serves Washington’s 7th district in Congress, posted a series of tweets on February 1, 2026, addressing Black History Month, local labor issues, and an immigration case involving a child named Liam.
In her first post marking the beginning of Black History Month, Jayapal stated: “Today marks the start of Black History Month — a time to recognize both the hardships endured by and celebrate the achievements of Black Americans. As the Trump admin attempts to erase Black history — it’s critical that we honor Black history, voices, and leaders every single” (February 1, 2026).
Later that day, she drew attention to labor concerns following a store closure in her district: “As a result of consolidation, corporate has been running skeleton crews at our store for years.” The Lake City Fred Meyer store closure directly impacted Melissa and her community. Listen to her story.” (February 1, 2026).
In another tweet on February 1st regarding an immigration case outcome involving a child named Liam, Jayapal wrote: “Liam is home!!! This is a win for the rule of law in this country. However, this little boy should have never been detained. As the judge put it ‘This case has it’s genesis in the ill-conceived and incompetently-implemented government pursuit of daily deportation quotas,”.
Pramila Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th District in Congress since replacing Jim McDermott in 2017. Before joining Congress, she served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965 and currently residing in Seattle at age 57, Jayapal holds degrees from Georgetown University (BA) and Northwestern University.
