U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who has represented Washington’s 7th district in Congress since 2017, recently used her social media platform to address several national policy issues, including campaign finance reform, immigration detention practices, and the economic impact of foreign policy decisions.

On June 2, 2026, Jayapal posted a brief message on her Twitter account calling for significant reforms: “Overturn Citizens United. Abolish Super PACs. Regulate AI.” (June 2, 2026). In another post later that day, she highlighted concerns about private contractors operating immigration detention centers: “The largest ICE detention facility contractor, the GEO Group, made $254 MILLION last year. All while immigrants suffer and work on $1/day. Disgusting. I have a bill to eliminate all for-profit ICE facilities and create strict standards, including minimum wage pay.” (June 2, 2026).

Later the same evening, Jayapal addressed rising household energy costs in relation to U.S. foreign policy: “The average American household has spent $450 more on energy costs during Trump’s Iran war. This war is illegal, immoral, and costing Americans big.” (June 2, 2026).

Jayapal’s recent statements reflect her ongoing legislative focus since joining Congress in 2017 after previously serving in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965 and now residing in Seattle at age 57, Jayapal has advocated for progressive policies throughout her career. She holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
