U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who represents Washington’s 7th district in Congress, posted a series of statements on December 17, 2025, addressing topics ranging from the retirement of a colleague to immigration policy and economic concerns.
In her first post of the day, Jayapal shared a message regarding the departure of another Washington State lawmaker: “My statement on the retirement of my Washington State colleague @RepNewhouse: https://t.co/XNoKdh1LW7” (December 17, 2025).
Later that afternoon, she commented on Temporary Protected Status (TPS), an immigration program that allows certain immigrants to remain in the United States if their home countries are affected by conflict or disaster. Jayapal wrote: “The TPS program lets immigrants who are already in the US stay longer if their countries are devastated by war, natural disaster, or other harsh conditions. Trump is dismantling it and forcing those people back to danger. https://t.co/beq7mHWaYt” (December 17, 2025).
In her final post that evening, Jayapal addressed rising costs for Americans and attributed them to former President Donald Trump and Republican lawmakers: “Thanks to Donald Trump and Republicans, your bills are getting more expensive. https://t.co/zqpc9qlU47” (December 17, 2025).
Jayapal has served as U.S. Representative for Washington’s 7th district since replacing Jim McDermott in 2017. She previously served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in what was then Madras State in India in 1965, Jayapal resides in Seattle and holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
