Rep. Pramila Jayapal, U.S. Congresswoman representing Washington’s 7th district since 2017, posted a series of messages on her social media account on January 18, 2026. Her tweets addressed topics ranging from community resilience and immigration enforcement to comments about public trust in government officials.
In an early morning post on January 18, Jayapal wrote: “Courage comes in times of fear. Strength comes in times of crisis.
What I’ve seen in Minnesota & across America is people coming together, showing that courage and strength in their communities, and standing up to ICE & this authoritarian administration.
We will not lose hope.”
Later that day, she voiced support for the Seattle Seahawks football team with a brief message: “GO SEAHAWKS “
In another post during the afternoon, Jayapal criticized South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem’s recent appearance on CNN. She stated: “The other day, Kristi Noem was on CNN and said, ‘We can’t trust our government anymore.’ She IS the government, and she is LYING to our faces.
Kristi Noem needs to come testify before the Judiciary Committee immediately — we need accountability.”
Pramila Jayapal has served as a member of Congress for Washington’s 7th District since succeeding Jim McDermott in 2017. Before her tenure in Congress, she was a member of the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai (formerly Madras State) in 1965 and now residing in Seattle at age 57, Jayapal graduated from Georgetown University with a BA in 1986 and earned an additional degree from Northwestern University in 1990.
