Rep. Pramila Jayapal, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Washington’s 7th district since 2017, addressed several key political issues in a series of tweets posted on April 14, 2026.
In her first post, Jayapal stated her position regarding recent congressional resignations: “Had Reps. Swalwell and Gonzales not resigned, I would have voted to expel them. We should not allow people who abuse their power and the public’s trust to continue serving in Congress.” (April 14, 2026)
Later that day, she questioned the effectiveness of the current tax system while advocating for her proposed legislation: “From Jeff Bezos’s editorial board. Question: If our tax system is so progressive, then why don’t we have universal childcare? Free community college? More housing? We need to pass my Ultra-Millionaire Tax Act.” (April 14, 2026)
In another tweet focused on foreign policy and humanitarian concerns, Jayapal commented on conditions in Cuba: “The humanitarian situation in Cuba is grim — no electricity for 20 hours a day, limited access to food, and unusable medical equipment because of the fuel blockade and embargo. The U.S. must end this cruel policy of maximum pressure immediately and work toward collaboration” (April 14, 2026)
Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th District since succeeding Jim McDermott in 2017 and previously served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. She was born in Chennai in 1965 and resides in Seattle. Her educational background includes degrees from Georgetown University (1986) and Northwestern University (1990).
