U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who represents Washington’s 7th district in Congress, posted a series of statements on her social media account addressing issues ranging from congressional stock trading to transparency around the Epstein files and extending birthday wishes to Senator Bernie Sanders.
On September 7, 2025, Jayapal announced her involvement in bipartisan legislation aimed at prohibiting members of Congress from trading stocks. She stated, “ICYMI: Alongside a bipartisan group of House members, I introduced legislation to ban members of Congress from trading stock. Americans should know that we’re working in their interests, not our own. Let’s restore trust in Congress and get this done.”
The following day, on September 8, 2025, Jayapal criticized former President Donald Trump regarding his comments on the Epstein files. She wrote, “Donald Trump’s insistence that the Epstein files are a ‘hoax’ is both insulting and shows that he is hiding something. This entire thing, from Trump down to 99% of Congressional Republicans, smells like a cover-up. Release the damn files.”
Later that same day, Jayapal sent birthday greetings to Senator Bernie Sanders via social media: “Happy birthday, @SenSanders! I know you don’t like to celebrate your birthday but we sure do! Thanks for all you are doing to take back our democracy from the billionaires so that working people can build a decent life!”
Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th District since 2017 after succeeding Jim McDermott and previously served in the Washington State Senate between 2014 and 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965 and currently residing in Seattle at age 57, she holds degrees from Georgetown University (1986) and Northwestern University (1990).
