U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who serves Washington’s 7th district, recently shared updates on her engagement with constituents and voiced criticism of U.S. immigration enforcement practices in a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter).
On February 18, 2026, Jayapal highlighted her interactions with local residents and organizations, stating, “It was great to speak with residents at University House and members of the West Seattle Rotary Club! My constituents are so thoughtful and ready to stand up for our democracy. It takes all of us, and I’m so grateful to represent such an engaged district!”
Later that day, she addressed actions taken by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) under former President Donald Trump’s administration: “Trump’s ICE just deported a 2-month-old baby. He promised to go after the ‘worst of the worst.’ He lied. He’s deporting literal BABIES.” The post expressed concern over reported deportations involving infants.
In another post on February 18, Jayapal discussed the case of Rodney Taylor: “Rodney Taylor has been held in a for-profit ICE detention facility for over a year. His health continues to deteriorate as ICE has denied him medical care and reasonable accommodations. I’m leading 20 of my colleagues to demand ICE review Rodney’s request for release.”
Pramila Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th congressional district since 2017 after succeeding Jim McDermott. Before her tenure in Congress, she served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965, Jayapal resides in Seattle and holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
