Rep. Pramila Jayapal, who represents Washington’s 7th district in the U.S. Congress, used her social media platform on December 10, 2025, to inform constituents about upcoming events and express criticism of former President Donald Trump’s recent statements.
In a post published at 2:31 AM UTC on December 10, Jayapal announced an outreach event: “WA-07: I’m hosting a telephone town hall tomorrow, Dec. 10th at 6:00 PM PT! Join me for an update on what’s going on in the other Washington, and how I’m fighting for you!” She invited residents of her district to participate in a telephone town hall for updates from Capitol Hill.
Later that morning, at 3:01 AM UTC, Jayapal addressed immigration policy issues by highlighting congressional participation in oversight activities regarding detention centers. She wrote: “More than two dozen Members of Congress showed up to my fifth shadow hearing on the horrific conditions in Trump’s ICE detention centers. Thank you to everyone who spoke up — we will continue to shine a light on this injustice and inhumanity.”
At 2:33 PM UTC the same day, Jayapal criticized former President Trump’s economic address with the statement: “Trump’s ‘big economy speech’ last night was full of NOTHING. No new policies. No new benefits for families. Just telling people that everything is amazing when we can see with our own two eyes that it’s not. It’s a complete betrayal of the American people.”
Jayapal has served as the representative for Washington’s 7th District since replacing Jim McDermott in 2017 and previously held office in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965 and currently residing in Seattle, she holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
