U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who serves Washington’s 7th district in Congress, recently posted a series of messages on social media addressing corporate accountability, constituent engagement, and congressional ethics.
On December 9, 2025, Jayapal criticized the previous presidential administration for its handling of corporate oversight. She wrote, “A consistent theme of the Trump administration — letting giant corporations who screw over Americans walk away without facing any consequences. Trump is for the billionaires, not for you.”
Later that evening, Jayapal highlighted her ongoing communication with constituents. In a post dated December 9, 2025, she stated, “Always a joy to take a few minutes and respond to my constituents with a few handwritten notes. Thank you all so much for staying engaged, asking questions, and making your voices heard to protect our democracy!”
On December 10, 2025, Jayapal announced her support for legislation restricting members of Congress from trading stocks. She said, “I just came off the House floor after signing the discharge petition to ban members of Congress from trading stocks. If you want to trade stocks, go to Wall Street. We must bring this bill to the floor to make sure the people know we’re working for them.”
Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th District since replacing Jim McDermott in 2017 and previously served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965 and now residing in Seattle at age 57, she holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
