U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who serves Washington’s 7th district, addressed several issues in a series of tweets this week, including democracy protection, concerns over former President Donald Trump’s statements on Cuba, and allegations regarding funding for January 6 insurrectionists.

On May 17, Jayapal highlighted her participation at the Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC) and Center for the Study of Islam and Democracy (CSID) Annual Conference. She stated: “This week, I spoke at @MPAC_National and @CSID_DC’s 24th Annual Conference about the need to protect democracy at home and abroad. As Republicans in Congress continue to attack our Muslim neighbors, this conversation could not have come at a more important time.”

The following day, Jayapal commented on developments concerning U.S.-Cuba relations. On May 18 she tweeted: “All signs are pointing in the direction that Trump will follow through on his threat to ‘take’ Cuba, as the country has run out of fuel, and the humanitarian crisis grows worse. In Congress, we must urgently pass my legislation to stop Trump from using federal funding for”

Later that same day, Jayapal raised concerns about alleged plans by Donald Trump related to financial support for individuals involved in the January 6 Capitol riot. She wrote: “Donald Trump now wants a $1.7 BILLION slush fund to pay the January 6 insurrectionists and his MAGA allies. This is an incredible level of corruption that YOU, the taxpayer, would be paying for.”

Pramila Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th District since 2017 after serving in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. She was born in Chennai in 1965 and currently resides in Seattle. Jayapal holds degrees from Georgetown University (1986) and Northwestern University (1990).
