Rep. Pramila Jayapal, a U.S. Congresswoman representing Washington’s 7th district since 2017, has used her social media platform to comment on judicial milestones and economic challenges facing Americans in recent days.
On September 16, 2025, Jayapal posted a message of gratitude for Justice Yu’s service on the Washington Supreme Court, writing: “Thank you to Justice Yu for her 11 years of outstanding service as the first Asian, Latina, and LGBTQIA+ justice on the WA Supreme Court. Let us carry on her legacy by reaffirming our commitment to protecting dignity and justice for all Washingtonians.”
Addressing economic concerns the following morning, Jayapal commented on credit trends and federal policy changes. On September 17, she stated: “The rich are getting richer while everyone else is screwed. Americans’ credit scores–esp Gen Z–are falling at fastest pace since Great Recession, thanks to costs going up plus Trump’s ending the student debt cancellation program we put in under Biden.”
Later that day, she reiterated her stance against wealth inequality and corporate consolidation with another post: “Our system is rigged — billionaires and mega corporations are getting richer while poor and working people struggle to get by. The consolidation of corporations, power, and money has to end. We must take on the wealthy ruling class and truly stand up for American families.”
Jayapal has served in Congress since replacing Jim McDermott in 2017 after previously holding office in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai (formerly Madras State) in 1965, she currently resides in Seattle at age 57. Her academic background includes degrees from Georgetown University (1986) and Northwestern University (1990).
