U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who represents Washington’s 7th district in Congress, posted a series of tweets on January 15, 2026, addressing recent national policy developments and her ongoing advocacy efforts.
In her first tweet at 18:37 UTC, Jayapal summarized several current events: “Minnesota prosecutors quit. Trump threatens ACA subsidies veto. Judge reinstates clean energy funding. Americans oppose ICE actions.
Here are 3 bad things and 3 good things to keep you in-the-know — your resistance matters, keep it up!”
Later that evening at 20:58 UTC, she addressed federal funding cuts: “On Tuesday, Trump cut off $2 billion in mental health and addiction funding, much of which is critical to Seattle orgs.
In response, I joined colleagues to demand the $$ be restored. Last night, it was.
I’ll keep fighting against harmful cuts like these.”
At 23:01 UTC the same day, Jayapal criticized immigration enforcement tactics and announced upcoming action: “Trump’s ICE is ramming down doors without warrants in violation of the 4th Amendment. Do Republicans really want to green light this behavior & allow ICE to do the same to their own constituents?
Tomorrow, I’ll be in Minneapolis-Saint Paul demanding oversight and accountability.”
Pramila Jayapal has served as a member of Congress for Washington’s 7th District since replacing Jim McDermott in 2017. Before her tenure in Congress, she was a member of the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai (formerly Madras State) in India in 1965, Jayapal now resides in Seattle. She holds degrees from Georgetown University (BA) and Northwestern University.
