U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who has represented Washington’s 7th district in Congress since 2017, recently used her social media platform to comment on several political and community issues.
On October 4, 2025, Jayapal addressed actions by the current administration, stating: “This administration has been slashing agencies, firing hundreds of thousands of federal workers, and cancelling funding for states that stand up to them. Democrats are fighting back.”
Later the same day, she discussed her engagement with Asian American and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander (AANHPI) seniors at a health-focused event. She wrote: “I spoke to AANHPI seniors at @napca_aging’s vaccine and open enrollment event about the importance of keeping our communities healthy! In a moment where there is rampant misinformation about vaccinations, it’s so important that we have organizations like NAPCA hosting events to”.
In a post on October 5, 2025, Jayapal highlighted support from Arizona-based groups after remarks made by an Arizona GOP representative. She stated: “Big shoutout to dozens of #Arizona groups who are calling for accountability for AZ GOP Rep. Gillette for calling for me and others who engage in nonviolent resistance training to be HANGED. Dangerous & designed to silence us all—it won’t work.”
Pramila Jayapal was born in Chennai in 1965 and currently resides in Seattle. Before joining Congress in 2017—succeeding Jim McDermott—she served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Jayapal earned degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
