Rep. Pramila Jayapal, who has represented Washington’s 7th district in the U.S. Congress since 2017, recently addressed several pressing political and humanitarian issues through a series of posts on her official Twitter account.

On August 5, 2025, Jayapal posted a statement regarding the situation in Gaza: “My statement on the current, horrific humanitarian situation and genocide in Gaza: https://t.co/Y8FMbdSAkb”.

Later that day, she commented on statements made by former President Trump’s Treasury Secretary about Social Security. In her tweet from August 5, 2025 at 14:52 UTC, Jayapal wrote: “ICYMI: Trump’s Treasury Secretary admitted that they are trying to privatize Social Security.

Republicans have already destroyed Medicaid, and now they’re coming for your Medicare and Social Security. Democrats will fight back with everything we’ve got. https://t.co/XVX8wskzDS“.

In another post later that afternoon, she questioned the transparency of former President Donald Trump by stating: “What is Trump hiding? https://t.co/RLioe2FpSF https://t.co/ZvPwOTu4YD”.

Jayapal has served as the congressional representative for Washington’s 7th District since replacing Jim McDermott in 2017. Born in Chennai (formerly Madras State) in India in 1965, Jayapal resides in Seattle and holds degrees from Georgetown University (1986) and Northwestern University (1990).
