U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who serves Washington’s 7th district, posted a series of statements on social media addressing recent global events and extending holiday greetings.
On December 14, 2025, Jayapal expressed condolences following an attack targeting the Jewish community. She wrote, “My heart goes out to all the families and the Australian and global Jewish community in mourning after this horrific, antisemitic attack. We must all as citizens of the world work together to prevent these hateful, terrible acts of violence from happening, ever again.”
Later that day, Jayapal criticized arms sales related to the ongoing conflict in Sudan. On December 14 she stated: “The UAE is funneling weapons into Sudan’s brutal civil war — yet the Trump administration went around Congress to sell $1.4 billion in helicopters and fighter jets to the country.
We cannot continue indirectly contributing to this genocide. These arms sales must end.”
In a separate message posted on December 14 as well, Jayapal extended Hanukkah greetings: “Happy Hanukkah to all who celebrate!
Wishing you a meaningful and beautiful Festival of Lights.”
Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th District in Congress since 2017 after succeeding Jim McDermott and previously served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965 and currently residing in Seattle, she holds degrees from Georgetown University (1986) and Northwestern University (1990).
