U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who represents Washington’s 7th district in Congress, posted a series of updates on her social media accounts between October 31 and November 1, 2025, addressing the ongoing government shutdown, federal program funding, and progressive political organizing.
On October 31, Jayapal commented on the state of federal affairs amid the government impasse: “Week five of the Republican shutdown, SNAP funding hanging in the balance, and Congressional oversight on ICE. Here’s my weekly three good things and three bad things.”
Later that evening, she promoted her podcast featuring Maurice Mitchell from the Working Families Party: “NEW POD: @WorkingFamilies Party National Director @MauriceWFP joined me to talk about fighting for all Americans, how to effectively organize in 2025, and where the progressive movement is headed. Watch below or listen wherever you get your podcasts!” (November 1).
In another post dated November 1, Jayapal addressed the duration of the shutdown and its effects: “We are officially one month into the Republican shutdown. Republicans must come to the table and end this. It’s time to cancel the cuts, lower health care costs, and get federal workers their well-earned paychecks.”
Pramila Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th congressional district since 2017 after succeeding Jim McDermott. She previously served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965 and currently residing in Seattle at age 57, Jayapal holds degrees from Georgetown University (BA) and Northwestern University.
