U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who serves Washington’s 7th district in Congress, addressed recent national issues and personal health actions in a series of posts on her social media account between October 17 and 18, 2025.
On October 17, Jayapal highlighted several ongoing national concerns: “Mass layoffs from the Republican Shutdown, the cost of Trump’s reckless tariffs, a court ruling against Trump, and more. Here are your weekly 3 bad things and 3 good things you need to know!”
Later that day, she commented on the impact of the federal government shutdown: “It’s day 17 of the Republican Shutdown, and approximately 750,000 federal workers have been furloughed and are missing paychecks. Workers and their families deserve better. Republicans must end this shutdown now.” This statement comes as the government shutdown enters its third week, affecting hundreds of thousands of federal employees.
On October 18, Jayapal shared her personal decision to receive seasonal vaccinations: “I got my flu and Covid shots! Vaccinations are one of the best tools we have to keep ourselves, our families, and our communities safe and healthy as we head into the colder months. Get your vaccines today!”
Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th district in Congress since 2017 after succeeding Jim McDermott. Before her tenure in Congress, she served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965, Jayapal resides in Seattle. She holds degrees from Georgetown University (BA, 1986) and Northwestern University (1990).
