Rep. Pramila Jayapal, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Washington’s 7th district since 2017, recently used her social media platform to address several national issues including government transparency, military use in domestic affairs, and climate change.

On September 2, 2025, Jayapal posted: “I’m signing. The American people deserve the truth.” She did not elaborate further on the context of what she was signing.

In another post dated September 3, 2025, Jayapal criticized former President Donald Trump’s approach to military power: “Donald Trump is using the military as a weapon against the American people. Trump is not a king. He cannot just take over cities because he wants to be a dictator. We will not back down in this fight against fascism.”

Later that day, Jayapal addressed environmental concerns affecting her region: “The PNW is getting hit with a dangerous heat wave this week, which will elevate fire risk and could be deadly. We can’t ignore the climate crisis. We need to fight it aggressively. Otherwise, these heat waves will only continue to get worse.”

Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th District since succeeding Jim McDermott in 2017 and previously served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965 and now residing in Seattle, she holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
