Rep. Pramila Jayapal, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Washington’s 7th district since 2017, recently addressed several national and international issues on her social media account.
On December 13, 2025, Jayapal commented on ongoing gun violence in the United States, stating: “It is so wrong that these mass shootings continue to happen. My heart is with the entire Brown community and all those affected, and this should do more than break our hearts. It should move us to action to enact real gun safety reforms.”
The following day, she criticized former President Donald Trump’s trade policies regarding India. In her December 14 post, she wrote: “Trump’s tariffs on India aren’t only raising prices for Americans — they are pushing India away as a trading ally and giving the country more incentive to partner with Russia and China. That hurts our economy and makes us all less safe.”
Later on December 14, Jayapal addressed Republican lawmakers’ positions on health care policy: “Republicans, time and time again, are voting for policies that will hurt their constituents — whether it’s slashing Medicaid or refusing to extend the ACA subsidies. It’s time for my colleagues across the aisle to grow a spine and stand up for the American people.”
Jayapal has served in Congress since succeeding Jim McDermott in 2017. Before her tenure in Congress, she was a member of the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965 and currently residing in Seattle, Jayapal holds degrees from Georgetown University (1986) and Northwestern University (1990).
