U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who has represented Washington’s 7th district in Congress since 2017, addressed a range of national issues in a series of posts on December 16, 2025.
In her first post, Jayapal commented on recent violence affecting students at Brown University: “Multiple students at Brown University experienced the second mass shooting of their lives this weekend. This is not normal or acceptable. Republicans must find the courage to stand up to the gun lobby and actually fight for our kids.” (December 16, 2025)
Later that day, she announced a legislative initiative with bipartisan support: “NEW: I’m leading a bipartisan effort with @RepThomasMassie to end forever wars by repealing a 2001 provision letting the White House bypass Congress. For decades, both parties have used this to conduct military operations with little to no oversight. It’s time for that to end.” (December 16, 2025)
In another post, Jayapal criticized former President Donald Trump’s economic policies: “Trump’s economy is failing the American people. Fewer jobs and higher prices for working families, all while he and Republicans give tax cuts to billionaires.” (December 16, 2025)
Jayapal has served in Congress since replacing Jim McDermott in 2017 and previously held office in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965 and currently residing in Seattle, she holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
