U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who represents Washington’s 7th district in Congress, addressed several issues on her Twitter account on July 30, 2025, including health care policy, the impact of tariffs on prescription drug prices, and the recent shooting death of Aland Etienne in New York City.

In a post made at 01:09 UTC, Jayapal wrote, “We are going to make sure every single Republican who voted to strip away our health care is held accountable. It’s time to stand up and fight back to cancel these cuts.”

Later that day at 14:12 UTC, she commented on the potential effects of former President Donald Trump’s trade policies: “Trump’s tariffs will make your prescription drugs more expensive.”

At 16:10 UTC, Jayapal expressed condolences following a fatal shooting in New York City involving a union member. Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th District in Congress since 2017 after succeeding Jim McDermott. Prior to her tenure in Congress, she served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965 and currently residing in Seattle, Jayapal graduated from Georgetown University with a BA in 1986 and earned an additional degree from Northwestern University in 1990.
