U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who represents Washington’s 7th district in Congress, has used her social media platform to address concerns regarding health care tax credits amid the ongoing government shutdown.
On October 18, 2025, Jayapal posted on X: “I’ve been getting a lot of questions about the health care tax credits and what exactly is at stake in this Republican shutdown. Here’s a breakdown: https://t.co/AdsaMRaeES”.
The following day, she criticized her Republican colleagues, writing on October 19, 2025: “Republicans would rather shutdown the government than work to protect health care for THEIR OWN constituents. https://t.co/CE9OyUty63”.
Later that same day, Jayapal highlighted potential impacts of lapsing Affordable Care Act subsidies: “A 50 year old couple making $95,000 a year could see their premiums go up by $17,000 if the ACA subsidies aren’t extended. It’s the 19th day of the Republican Shutdown, and Republicans are still on vacation instead of protecting health care. https://t.co/7pIIIdUKVi”.
Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th District in Congress since 2017 after serving in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. She was born in Chennai in 1965 and currently resides in Seattle. Jayapal earned her undergraduate degree from Georgetown University and later graduated from Northwestern University.
