U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who serves Washington’s 7th district in Congress, posted a series of statements on January 27, 2026, addressing issues ranging from health care costs to Holocaust remembrance and youth engagement in democracy.
In her first post of the day, Jayapal criticized former President Trump and Republican lawmakers regarding rising health care premiums. She stated on January 27: “Thanks to Trump and Republicans, Americans are now seeing their health care premiums double and triple — costing some folks more than even their mortgage payments. This is a crisis of Republicans’ own making. And people will die because of it.”
Later that afternoon, Jayapal marked International Holocaust Remembrance Day with a message commemorating victims and urging continued vigilance against genocide. She wrote at 19:29 UTC: “On International Holocaust Remembrance Day, we honor the 6 million Jews and many others murdered by the Nazis and recognize the lasting impact of these horrific events on Jewish communities. We must never forget these atrocities and commit to stopping genocide wherever it”
In an evening post, Jayapal reflected on a meeting with students from Shorecrest High School about civic participation. She shared at 21:14 UTC: “During these dark times, speaking with such engaged young people gives me hope for our future. It was great to chat with students from Shorecrest HS about how they can use their voices and get involved in our democracy.”
Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th District in Congress since 2017 after succeeding Jim McDermott; she previously served in the Washington State Senate between 2014 and 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965, she currently resides in Seattle and holds degrees from Georgetown University (1986) and Northwestern University (1990).
