U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who serves Washington’s 7th district in Congress, posted a series of statements on social media addressing Hispanic Heritage Month, economic concerns under former President Trump, and the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
On September 15, 2025, Jayapal marked the beginning of Hispanic Heritage Month with a message highlighting the significance of Hispanic culture and contributions. She wrote: “Hispanic Heritage Month is a time to recognize the rich culture, resilient history, and incredible contributions Hispanic people have made to this country — today and every day. Happy Hispanic Heritage Month!”
Later that evening on September 16, 2025, Jayapal criticized former President Donald Trump’s policies for their impact on everyday costs. In her post she stated: “From school supplies to gas to groceries, Trump is making your life more expensive. Poor and working people are paying the price of his reckless policies.”
In another post from September 16, 2025, Jayapal addressed developments in Gaza following an Israeli ground operation into Gaza City. She wrote: “The Israeli govt is continuing its destruction of Gaza, now with a ground operation into Gaza City. How many more people have to die before this ends? The US must end our complicity in this genocide & stop supplying Israel with weapons. #BlockTheBombs”
Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th district since replacing Jim McDermott in Congress in 2017. Before her tenure in Congress, she served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai (formerly Madras State) in India in 1965 and currently residing in Seattle at age 57, Jayapal holds degrees from Georgetown University (BA) and Northwestern University.
