U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who serves Washington’s 7th district in Congress, commented on recent political developments and the ongoing government shutdown through a series of posts on November 5, 2025.

In one post, Jayapal responded to Senator Chris Murphy’s remarks by stating, “Exactly right @ChrisMurphyCT. Press our advantage. Stand up and fight back. The people did their part last night. Now we have to do our part. “ (November 5, 2025).

Addressing the ongoing federal government shutdown, she wrote: “Today is the 36th day of the Republican shutdown — making it the longest government shutdown in our country’s history. Republicans need to come back to DC and get to work for the American people. It’s long overdue.” (November 5, 2025).

Jayapal also congratulated Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, writing: “Congrats to @MayorWu—one of the most impressive, competent and progressive mayors in our country! “ (November 5, 2025).

Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th District since replacing Jim McDermott in Congress in 2017 and previously served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965 and currently residing in Seattle, Jayapal holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
