U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who serves Washington’s 7th district in Congress, recently addressed issues ranging from household debt to threats against the judiciary in a series of posts on her social media account.

On March 10, 2026, Jayapal wrote: “Everyday Americans have been forced to pay for daily expenses with credit cards — owing a collective $1.23 trillion in credit card debt. As Trump slashes funding for health care and food assistance, he’s giving himself and his billionaire buddies massive tax breaks.”

The following day, on March 11, she posted: “50% of Americans can’t afford health care, and millions more have medical debt. It’s time for universal health care — no one should go broke because they get sick.”

Later that same day, Jayapal commented on political rhetoric and its impact on judicial safety: “The threats against judges, fueled by the rhetoric of the Trump administration, are not only dangerous for the rule of law but threaten our very democracy and separation of powers.”

Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th District since 2017 after succeeding Jim McDermott. Before joining Congress, she served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965 and currently residing in Seattle at age 57, Jayapal holds degrees from Georgetown University (1986) and Northwestern University (1990).
