Rep. Pramila Jayapal, who represents Washington’s 7th district in the U.S. Congress, recently used her social media platform to address issues related to immigration enforcement and congressional ethics.
On January 16, 2026, Jayapal posted about her role in an oversight event regarding federal immigration authorities: “I am here in Minneapolis-St. Paul to chair an accountability hearing on the brutality and violence that Trump’s ICE is inflicting on the community. We will not back down.

Later the same day, she commented on legislative efforts to restrict stock trading by members of Congress: “Banning stock trading for Members of Congress is a popular, populist position that runs across party lines.
As Speaker Johnson tries to push forward a weak, GOP alternative that lets Members continue to trade stocks — we must keep pushing for our bipartisan bill. https://t.co/v66DXncqse“
In a subsequent post on January 16, Jayapal reiterated concerns about oversight at immigration detention centers: “It is our congressional duty to conduct oversight at ICE facilities. This move is yet another attempt by this administration to hide the horrific conditions of these detention centers.
This is illegal and we won’t let up. https://t.co/EzMlkms36b“
Pramila Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th District since 2017 after serving in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. She succeeded Jim McDermott as congressperson and currently resides in Seattle. Born in Chennai in 1965, Jayapal holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
