Rep. Pramila Jayapal, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Washington’s 7th district since 2017, recently addressed immigration issues and enforcement actions in a series of posts on her social media account.
On December 7, 2025, Jayapal wrote: “I was honored to stand alongside Mahmoud Khalil, who was wrongfully detained, to introduce my Dignity for Detained Immigrants Act. He and the thousands of immigrants in detention or who have been detained deserve better from this country.”
Later that day, she criticized federal immigration enforcement practices by stating: “ICE is kidnapping parents from outside of their children’s daycare centers. This is not what going after the ‘worst of the worst’ looks like. Trump is terrorizing families and traumatizing children.”
In another post from December 7, Jayapal highlighted several current events: “Illegal boat strikes, health care anxiety, judge rules on immigrant detention, and the Tennessee special election. Here are 3 good things and 3 bad things you need to know!”
Jayapal has served in Congress since replacing Jim McDermott in 2017 and previously held office in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965, she currently resides in Seattle. She holds degrees from Georgetown University (1986) and Northwestern University (1990).
