U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who represents Washington’s 7th district in Congress, addressed several policy issues and constituent reminders on her social media account on December 5, 2025.
In a post made early that morning, Jayapal criticized the relationship between private prison corporations and the Trump administration. She stated, “The private, for-profit prison corporations that donated millions to help Trump get elected are now reaping the profits. This admin and ICE are funneling them billions of dollars in contracts to detain record numbers of immigrants — most of whom have no criminal record.” (December 5, 2025).
Later in the day, Jayapal commented on airline regulations under the previous administration. She wrote, “Democrats wanted to force big airlines to pay you if they delayed your flight for hours and hours. Then Trump came into office and cancelled the entire plan. Why? Because he only cares about helping out his billionaire buddies, not you.” (December 5, 2025).
In a third post that afternoon, Jayapal reminded constituents about an important health care deadline: “Reminder: the Medicare Open Enrollment period ends December 7, 2025 — this Sunday! If you need any assistance to ensure you have the coverage you need in 2026, please reach out to my office. We are here to help!” (December 5, 2025).
Pramila Jayapal has served as a member of Congress since replacing Jim McDermott in 2017 and previously served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in what was then Madras State in India in 1965, she is currently based in Seattle. Jayapal holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
