U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who represents Washington’s 7th district in Congress, posted a series of tweets on January 23, 2026, addressing immigration policy, federal budget priorities, and a podcast interview regarding law enforcement in the Twin Cities.

In her first tweet of the day, Jayapal criticized former President Donald Trump’s immigration policies: “Trump has sent 600 CHILDREN into ICE detention. They are not going after the ‘worst of the worst’ — they are ripping families apart and forever traumatizing children. This must end.” (posted January 23, 2026).

Later that afternoon, she commented on national fiscal decisions and healthcare policy: “Budgets are moral choices — and Republicans are proving once again that we don’t suffer from scarcity in this country, we suffer from greed. We should be working to make health care affordable for all Americans, not padding billionaires’ pockets.” (posted January 23, 2026).

In a third post that evening, Jayapal promoted a new podcast episode featuring Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison: “NEW POD: I spoke with Minnesota @AGEllison about Trump’s deadly assault on the Twin Cities and what he’s doing as AG to fight back, demand accountability, and protect the community. Watch at the link below or listen where you get your podcasts!” (posted January 23, 2026).

Pramila Jayapal has served as U.S. Representative for Washington’s 7th District since replacing Jim McDermott in 2017. She previously held office in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965 and currently residing in Seattle at age 57, Jayapal is an alumna of Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
