Rep. Pramila Jayapal, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Washington’s 7th district since 2017, recently shared updates on her legislative activities and views via social media.
On December 13, 2025, Jayapal expressed appreciation for her allies in immigration advocacy, stating: “I’m grateful to have partners like Heidi Altman and @NILC in the fight to defend immigrants from ICE and the Trump administration. We will keep fighting for a system that greets immigrants and asylum seekers with community support, not handcuffs.”
Later that day, she posted about her participation in a public forum outside her home state: “Today, I’m in Pennsylvania in a Republican district hosting a town hall with @RepBrendanBoyle @RepDean and @RepMcGovern. The American people deserve to hear from their elected officials, and if Republicans won’t show up, we will.” This statement highlights Jayapal’s ongoing efforts to engage constituents even beyond her own district.
In another post on December 13, Jayapal criticized Republican fiscal policies: “Republicans are selling out working people — spending on tax cuts for billionaires and ballooning ICE’s budget. All while American families struggle to keep food on the table.”
Jayapal has served as Washington’s 7th District representative since succeeding Jim McDermott in 2017. Prior to her congressional tenure, she was a member of the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965 and currently residing in Seattle at age 57, Jayapal holds degrees from Georgetown University (BA) and Northwestern University.
