U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who serves Washington’s 7th district in Congress, posted a series of tweets on November 20, 2025, addressing topics ranging from immigration policy and political violence to transgender rights.
In a tweet at 16:52 UTC, Jayapal criticized the Trump administration’s approach to domestic issues. She wrote, “Instead of actually working to lower your grocery costs, help you get a job, or make your health care cheaper, the Trump administration would rather just blame immigrants for literally everything.”
Later that day at 18:42 UTC, Jayapal referenced a video that reportedly angered former President Donald Trump. She stated, “This is the video that enraged Trump so much that he called for these Democratic lawmakers to be hanged. They served our country & now the President wants them dead because they said something he didn’t like. We can’t become numb to these disgusting calls for political violence.”
At 19:36 UTC on Transgender Day of Remembrance, Jayapal highlighted her legislative efforts regarding transgender rights. She tweeted, “Today on Transgender Day of Remembrance, I am leading a resolution to lift up this day and honor all the trans people who have lost their lives to anti-trans violence. Trans lives matter and I will never stop fighting for all trans to be able to live as their authentic selves.”
Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th District in Congress since 2017 after succeeding Jim McDermott. Before her tenure in Congress, she served in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965 and currently residing in Seattle, Jayapal holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
