U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who has represented Washington’s 7th district in Congress since 2017, recently addressed a range of national and international issues on her social media account.
On November 7, 2025, Jayapal criticized the actions of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) under former President Donald Trump’s administration. She stated, “Trump told Americans he was going to go after the ‘worst of the worst.’ Instead, ICE is kidnapping people of all legal statuses, including U.S. citizens, and disappearing them with zero accountability. Americans are fed up with this cruelty and we are not going to let it stand.”
Later that day, she commented on ongoing negotiations regarding a government shutdown led by Republicans. In her post dated November 7, 2025, Jayapal wrote: “Any deal to end this Republican Shutdown must save our health care and lower skyrocketing premium costs. Millions of Americans made their voices heard on Tuesday night. Trump has to come to the table, negotiate, and work with Democrats to lower health care prices.”
Addressing global concerns in another post from November 7, 2025, Jayapal highlighted the humanitarian crisis in Sudan: “Sudan is experiencing the largest humanitarian crisis ever recorded. 12 million people have been displaced — that is the population of the state of Georgia. And more than 635,000 people are facing famine. We must push for an arms embargo on Sudan and get aid in immediately.”
Jayapal has served as a member of Congress since replacing Jim McDermott in 2017 after previously serving in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965 and currently residing in Seattle at age 57, she holds degrees from Georgetown University (BA) and Northwestern University.
