U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who has represented Washington’s 7th district since 2017, posted a series of statements on her social media account addressing issues related to immigration, healthcare, and the direction of the current administration.

On October 2, 2025, Jayapal expressed support for Seattle Commissioner Hamdi Mohamed and highlighted their joint efforts on behalf of immigrant communities. She wrote, “So proud of my friend Commissioner Hamdi Mohamed for standing up for Seattle’s immigrant communities at every turn. As we fight back against this administration’s cruelty towards immigrants, I’m grateful to have partners like Hamdi.”

The following day, Jayapal referenced Project 2025 and former President Donald Trump in a post about concerns over authoritarianism. On October 3, she stated, “Project 2025 was always Donald Trump’s plan — and every day we are seeing him inch us closer to the authoritarianism outlined in it. We must continue to fight back.”

Later that same day, Jayapal addressed ongoing disputes over healthcare policy between Republicans and Democrats amid a government shutdown. She wrote on October 3: “Republicans want to strip health care from millions. Democrats are fighting to stop them. Republicans won’t even negotiate to save health care. Long story short — this shut down is on them.”

Jayapal has served in Congress since replacing Jim McDermott in 2017 and previously held office in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965, she currently resides in Seattle and holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
