Rep. Pramila Jayapal, a U.S. Congresswoman representing Washington’s 7th district since 2017, recently addressed several policy concerns in a series of posts on her official Twitter account.
On May 23, 2026, Jayapal highlighted the challenges faced by survivors of trafficking and domestic violence seeking to remain safely in the United States. She wrote, “There are specific visas that were created to ensure that survivors of trafficking and domestic violence could remain safely in the US. Backlogs and arbitrary caps combined with Trump’s cruel mass detention campaign mean that too often these people are languishing in detention.”
The following day, on May 24, she turned attention to ongoing antitrust efforts targeting Live Nation-Ticketmaster. Jayapal stated, “Democrats are spotlighting the ongoing legal effort to break up the Live Nation-Ticketmaster monopoly. I questioned a former Trump DOJ official who confirmed that outside corporate lobbying likely resulted in the surprise DOJ settlement. We must keep up this fight.”
Later on May 24, Jayapal commented on healthcare affordability and recent changes to Affordable Care Act (ACA) subsidies, “Thanks to Trump and Republicans’ refusal to extend the ACA subsidies, ACA premiums are up 58% this year, leading 5 million Americans to forgo health care coverage altogether. In the richest country in the world, no one should worry about being able to afford a trip to the…”
Jayapal has served as Washington’s 7th District representative since succeeding Jim McDermott in 2017 and previously held office in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. Born in Chennai in 1965 and currently residing in Seattle, she holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
