U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal, who represents Washington’s 7th district, posted a series of messages on October 13, 2025, addressing Indigenous Peoples’ Day, the challenges faced by community health clinics, and the impact of federal agency cuts and government shutdowns.
In a post marking Indigenous Peoples’ Day, Jayapal stated: “On Indigenous Peoples’ Day, as we recognize the history and deep cultural traditions of the diverse Indigenous Tribes, we must also reflect on the trauma and damage they have suffered in this country. Today, we recommit to lifting up and supporting our Indigenous communities.” (October 13, 2025)
Later that day, she discussed her visit to a local health clinic: “I visited Neighborcare — an amazing community health clinic that serves low-income, seniors, and people of all statuses in our community. As they confront the challenges of Trump’s health care cuts and the Republican shutdown, I will continue to stand with them and support their” (October 13, 2025)
Jayapal also addressed the ongoing difficulties faced by federal workers due to government shutdowns and agency budget cuts: “Federal workers are facing an impossible situation — as Trump slashes agencies, and the Republican shutdown forces thousands of workers onto furlough. I will continue to do everything possible to stand up for the workers who keep our country and our government running. Thank you” (October 13, 2025)
Jayapal has represented Washington’s 7th district in Congress since 2017, after previously serving in the Washington State Senate from 2014 to 2016. She was born in Chennai in 1965 and currently resides in Seattle. Jayapal holds degrees from Georgetown University and Northwestern University.
